We were blessed with some very generous people responding to our need for Lupron.  The critical period is over for now and our adrenal kids are back on schedule for treatment.   The number of kids needing Lupron varies from month to month as new ones develop adrenal disease and others move on to the Rainbow Bridge.  So for now, we anticipate that our Lupron supply will last until May or June of 2008.  We are extremely overwhelmed with gratitude to those who came to our rescue.

and now we can concentrate on..... THE MONSTER BOYS!!!!

update 11/4/2007...both pairs of monster boys have been placed in temporary foster homes for socialization and TLC.  They will make wonderful companions and we are still in need of permanent homes.  These boys should not be growing up in a shelter for the old and sick.

Sept 2007.  We can't do both.  It can't be done.  It's overwhelming and burnout is approaching.  What, you ask?  Taking care of the sick AND the healthy at the same time.  You don't understand?  Let me explain.  I'm up all night with medicating and hand feedings sometimes for days at a time.  Vet visits, surgeries, sickness, special needs.  I am dedicated to them for sure.  But when they are healthy?  They can't be with the sick.  They must be housed separately and time must be found to let them out for play and exercise at least twice a day totalling about 4 hours.  Why are they here?  Special circumstances closed down a foster home.  We've added a couple more terminals who will stay but the MONSTER BOYS MUST GO!!!  Please please help!  We have 2 pairs of very wonderful boys who need their forever home.

Little Dude's Ferret News

Ever wondered what it might be like for a shelter mom to go through the experience of dealing with a dying ferret?  Here is one shelter mom's very private thoughts put into words shortly after the death of little Cinnamon.

A DAY IN THE DEATH

Or, ever wonder what it might be like for a ferret sanctuary/hospice mom to care for them on a daily basis?  Here's a peek into that life.

ARYLKIA

In April 2007, LDFR hospice & sanctuary permanently relocated just east of the Cascade Mountains about an hour and a half from Seattle.   Our hospice is intended to provide a safe and loving home environment for the elderly, disabled and terminally ill until their time to cross the Rainbow Bridge.  They are free to roam without confinement and their room is set up in a style more pleasing and practical  for the elderly or sick ferret.  All ferrets get the best medical care and are helped over the Bridge only when the caregiver and LDFR's veterinarian determine that it is necessary to end their suffering.

Because we have relocated east of Snoqualmie Pass, we can no longer continue our outreach programs.

LDFR volunteers may schedule adoption and/or education events as time permits.

PISH PADS!

Check them out!  A unique, cost effective way to litterbox train your ferets.  After the initial purchase, you will never buy another bag of pellets ever again!  No mess, no scooping, no hauling away used litter, no dump fees, no smell.  Best of all, the ferrets love it.  No slipping and sliding and no matter how much they pee, it's still dry!

Do you have love and time to give but not sure about the financial committment of caring for an older or sick ferret?  Please ask us about our Foster Program.

Many, many thanks go to Laura Holland, a local singer and songwriter who wrote a beautiful song one evening during a time of grief while mourning the loss of her cherished and beloved ferret, Freddy.  Lauragenerously donates all of the proceeds from the sale of her CD to Little Dudes Ferret Ranch so that we might help other ferrets.

In addition to her monetary support, Laura also donates her time professionally -  AND she has added two more beautiful girls from our shelter to her ferret family.

Please take a minute to visit her website and check out the

Little Star CD.

Freddy's legacy lives on.  Rest in peace little guy and Dook on!

Little Dude's was called out to pick up a "stray ferret" that was captured in someone's garage.  This little guy is NOT a ferret!  He is wild and vicious no matter how cute he looks!
